July 18th, 2008

Gatlinburg offers a mountain of fun any time of year.  One of the area’s year round hot spots is Ober Gatlinburg Ski Resort and Amusement Park and there’s plenty of action at the top of the mountain any season. One of America’s largest Aerial Tramways departs regularly from downtown Gatlinburg, going directly up the side of Mount Harrison to the Ski Resort and Amusement Park. The two 120 passenger counter balanced cars provide a fun and scenic experience for all ages.

Even during the summer months, the amusement park offers plenty of downhill action, with fast water slides and a weaving, wandering and dipping descent down an 1,800-foot Alpine Slide.  A braking system allows you to control the speed of your sled as it races down the mountain curves, straight-aways and even hairpin turns.

You’ll also find a wide variety of other activities and attractions, including an indoor ice skating rink that’s open year-round.

Changes are coming to Disney’s Pleasure Island
July 15th, 2008

After 19 years of partying, Disney’s six popular Pleasure Island nightclubs will be closed this fall to make room for a broader mix of family oriented restaurants and shops.  The clubs, which catered to young, single adults will close after Sept. 27, 2008.

This bold new approach is the result of Disney’s customers requesting more broad-based dining and retail opportunities and to address a need for more specialized entertainment options.

Pleasure Island opened in 1989 and we designed to look like a revitalized back-alley warehouse district.  However, the island known for its music, dancing, drinking and partying now creates an awkward link between two other popular entertainment districts: Marketplace and Disney’s West Side.  Those sections offer nightclubs that are operated as part of restaurants that appeal to a broader, family-friendly crowd.

Aquatica water park now open til 10 pm
July 9th, 2008

SeaWorld’s exciting new water park, Aquatica, is currently open until 10:00 p.m. seven days a week.  Although the park’s summer operating hours are 9:00 am to 10:00 pm, if you purchase tickets in advance, you can receive early access to Aquatica starting at 8 a.m.  In other words, come early and play late!

Typically, the park’s capacity decreases after 4 p.m., so you might also choose to come later in the day to enjoy cooler weather and faster ride access. For current updates on park capacity, you can call the Aquatica toll-free hotline at 1-866-787-4307.

Aquatica also offers quick access to refreshments that will curb your appetite during a fun-filled day at the park.  Too busy to take time out for a full lunch…then stop by the “grab and go” Mango Market for a quick bite or refreshing beverage.  The Mango Market will even pack your meal in a picnic basket for you to take back and spread out on the beach or under a shady tree.
