Manta, Ride the Flying Ray at SeaWorld!
Friday, May 30th, 2008
SeaWorld Orlando has announced the next generation of SeaWorld thrills with Manta - a new mega-attraction designed to seamlessly transition guests from the awe of encountering rays in underwater flight…into the sensation of being one. Swooping over sea and sky, Manta will inspire riders with amazing underwater animal habitats, then soar them face down, in a horizontal position, aboard a manta-inspired flying coaster. The new signature ride is scheduled to open summer 2009.
Guests will enter a mythical village filled with artisan-created engravings and artwork that celebrate ray legend and lore. The queue line winds through caverns with floor to ceiling windows to huge aquariums filled with 300 rays, as well as thousands of fish and mysterious sea creatures from oceans around the world such as sea dragons and sea horses. Shark rays, spotted eagles rays, leopard rays, cownose rays and oscillate river rays will all float past and above.
Once guests traverse the fun-filled queue line, they’ll fly face down, in a horizontal position, underneath the belly of a coaster train shaped as a giant manta. With a wing span of 12 feet, the giant manta will soar over a 16,300 square foot lagoon - swooping and diving at nearly 60 mph, through four inversions on 3, 359 feet of track. The manta sails from sky to sea - at a height of up to 140 feet and a drop of 113 feet - with the manta’s wings nearly skimming the waves below.

SeaWorld’s new Aquatica water park opens March 1
Monday, February 18th, 2008
Orlando’s newest theme park is set to open to the public on March 1, 2008! SeaWorld’s exciting new water park, Aquatica, will blend up close animal experiences, waters from serene to extreme, high-speed thrills and wide, sandy beaches to create an all new water park experience. “SeaWorld is famous for immersing guests in the mystery of the sea and its animals,” said Jim Atchison, executive vice president and general manager of SeaWorld Orlando. “Aquatica takes this immersion to a new level, inviting guests to play in, over, and under the water itself.”
With nearly 60 acres of lush landscape inspired by the vivid color, stunning flora and carefree personality of a South Sea Islands, Aquatica is reminiscent of the rugged beauty of New Zealand, Australia and New Guinea. Crystal-blue rivers wind through hidden grottos and refreshing waterfalls, while rich greenery and bright flowers adorn towering rock formations.
Live animals from lands all over the world including Commerson’s dolphins, brilliant macaws and colorful fish bring to life the park’s playful, high-energy nature.
Aquatica features the most thrilling water rides in the world with 36 water slides, six rivers and lagoons, and more than 80,000 square feet of beach area. These distinct attractions will zoom, float and splash guests through amazing animal habitats and undersea adventures.
The park’s signature attraction plunges riders in clear tubes through a crystal-blue lagoon with black-and-white Commerson’s dolphins. Guests feel as if they are flying beneath the sea among these beautiful animals. While similar in coloration to SeaWorld’s icon, Shamu, these dolphins are also distinctly different. In addition to being much smaller, they are also fast, agile swimmers - making them the perfect inhabitants for this lively park.
Aquatica’s attractions offer equal emphasis on high-energy thrill rides and immersive swimming experiences. A colorful mix of racing tunnels, raft rides and rivers offer crashing surf and high-speed thrills, while pools, lagoons and lazy rivers invite guests to enjoy slower pace.

Polar Express rolls into SeaWorld!
Wednesday, December 5th, 2007
The Polar Express is rolling through SeaWorld Orlando this holiday season.
SeaWorld Orlando, Warner Bros. Pictures and Iwerks Entertainment are reprogramming the theme park’s Wild Arctic simulator ride, transforming it into a simulated train ride to “Santa Town,” based on Chris Van Allsburg’s children’s book The Polar Express and the 2004 animated movie of the same name. The reformatted ride debuts Dec. 7 and will be in place through Jan. 1. After that, the ride will be returned to its original Wild Arctic format.
The ride uses motion technology and big-screen video to simulate a wild, fast-moving trip. Normally, it offers visitors a simulated helicopter flight to an Arctic animal-research station, complete with swooping maneuvers to spy various animals and to avoid danger. Under the new format, the ride will simulate a train excursion powered by a massive steam-locomotive. In the film, from Warner Bros. Pictures and Shangri-La Entertainment, children rode the train, conducted by a character voiced by actor Tom Hanks, up snow-cloaked mountains, across frozen lakes and along perilous, icy passes. Wild Arctic also serves as SeaWorld’s exhibit of polar bears, beluga whales, walruses and other Arctic animals. They will remain part of the post-ride show, and will still be available for people to view separately if they choose to skip the ride. But the exhibit area is also being made up as a winter wonderland, to match the film’s locations, for the holiday season.
